Advertising and DVRs07 Feb 2006 09:34 am
I didn’t watch the Super Bowl. I went to the Darioush Winery in Napa and was the guest of one of the managers. I think a fair trade off. But, I did DVR (digital video record) it and apparently so did others.
As Media Post reports, while the Super Bowl’s numbers were up. DVR usage might have reduced viewership in key demographics. But then again the article says that the DVR users might have actually watched the commercials more intently. The discussion goes round and round.
The bottom line? The effect of DVRs is still an unknown.

One thing I always wonder about with the Super Bowl is the advertising and if it gives the companies a return on their investment or if it is just used as a spectacle for the event. Does Budweiser get a larger customer base due to the commercials shown during the game or is the world of consumerism the same the day after the game as it was before the game.
I actually watched the game for the first time in 10 years this year. How are they trying to latch onto me since I don’t watch the game.
